Letter To The Editor

Thank you from  Oklahoma  Composer,  Glenn Edward Burleigh,

A few weeks ago it was my  honor to have presented two major concerts for our Centennial Celebration.  The first was the 37th annual Festival of Spirituals on April 1st sponsored by the Cimarron Circuit Opera Company headed by Erica Thomas and founded  by the late Thomas and Carol Brice Carey.            The second,  held on Good Friday at Rose State College,  was a presentation  of  my cantata  “Born To Die”,  masterfully  performed by the  Oklahoma City Philharmonic and the Ambassador’s Concert Choir, founded by its Music Director,  Kenneth Kilgore.

My sincerest thanks goes to  Erica Thomas;  Sandra Thompson (for your masterful conducting);  Patti Drennan and the First Baptist Church;  Dr. Steven Curtis and the OU Concert Choir; Mr. Anderson Harrison and the OU Gospel Choir;   Brenda Johnson and the Greater Mt.  Olive Baptist Church and members of  Quayle United Methodist Church. Guest soloists were  Soprano Brenda Wimberly  of Fayetteville, North Carolina,  and  Bass-Baritone Dorceal Duckens from Houston, Texas.  They were joined by Pennsylvania Tenor, Gordon Kaslusky for  “Born To Die”  making some of the most glorious music I have  heard as a composer. I am especially grateful  and quite  proud of the fact that I am  an  Oklahoma  born  and  educated  musician  (OU and OCU) and that I could conduct former classmates,  professors and  new  friends in some  of  my works.

We are profoundly grateful to Mr. Richard Sias  for years of financial support and to those in attendance who gave such overwhelming support for  both concerts.   Thanks be to God for giving me  this music to share with my state and with the world.

Oklahoma,  You’re   “OK”

Sincerely,

Glenn Edward Burleigh, Composer
